Giggling Panda Library Borrowing Rules

1. Library Card and Access: Young readers must use their personal library cards to access the library and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. A library card must be issued on the first visit, with a non-refundable fee of £5 and a refundable deposit of £20. This deposit will be returned upon surrendering the library card and terminating borrowing services, with no interim deductions allowed. The library card can be used without an expiration date. In case of loss, a replacement fee applies. Borrowing books is free of all charges. The library card is strictly for personal use and cannot be lent to others. Fines for lost or damaged books due to unauthorised lending will be the responsibility of the cardholder.

2. Borrowing Limitations: During the trial period, each person is allowed to borrow up to 3 books at a time. The maximum borrowing period for each book is 3 weeks. Parents and students are advised to select books thoughtfully. Late returns will incur a charge of 50p per book per week, contributing to the library’s support and maintenance.

3. Library Conduct: While in the library, all readers must adhere to the rules and regulations of the library and the school and should respect and follow the guidance of library staff. As a public learning space, the library requires readers to maintain good order, a tidy environment, and a quiet atmosphere. Littering and loud noise are not acceptable.

4. Care for Public Property: Readers are expected to take care of all public facilities within the library. Writing, drawing, or unauthorized use of equipment is not allowed.

5. Lost Books: In the event of a lost book, it must be replaced with an identical version (same edition or print) within two weeks. If replacement is not possible, compensation for regular Chinese books and materials will be at three times the original price. Multi-volume books, series, or periodicals will be compensated at three times the price of the entire set or annual subscription.

6. Damaged Books: Readers who do not take care of the books, such as making annotations, smearing, marking, or tearing pages, will be fined up to five times the book's price, depending on the severity of the damage. A £5 fine will be strictly imposed per book for tearing off barcodes or magnetic strips. Readers should check the condition of the books before borrowing and report any issues to the staff immediately.

7. Library Funds: All library operational surpluses will be used for updating and replacing both the books and management systems.

Giggling Panda Chinese School reserves the final right of interpretation for the above rules.
