The Dragon Head-Raising Festival (Er Yue Er, 二月二) falls on the second day of the second lunar month (this year is on 1st March 2025). It marks the awakening of the Dragon King, bringing rain and prosperity for the farming season.
Traditions:
Getting a Haircut – Symbolizes a fresh start and good luck.
Eating Dragon-Themed Foods – Such as dragon whisker noodles (龙须面) and dragon scale pancakes (龙鳞饼) for prosperity.
Praying for Rain – Farmers hold ceremonies for a good harvest.
Avoiding Needlework – To prevent harming the dragon’s eyes and scales.
Today, the festival is widely observed, especially with haircuts, symbolizing renewal and good fortune.
